“Mommy,” asked my four year old, “How do we get trees?”

“Well, a small seed falls on the right soil… and if it gets the right amount of rain and sun, it begins to grow… and grow and grow and grow.

Then, once it’s a large tree, it begins to drop seeds to begin growing new trees.

Birds will come eat the fruit and seeds of the tree… then while they are flying, it poops, and drops the seeds it has eaten, and if that seed falls in the right place… it begins to grow too.”

*Giggle giggle*

“Yeah, that is funny, huh? God even uses bird-poop to make something big and beautiful!”

“Yeah, He uses bird-poop!” More giggles. I join the laughter as my mind begins to wrap around the story I just told.

God uses bird poop.

He uses the excrement of wild feathered creations to share His garden with the rest of the world. Really?

Because I definitely have some “bird poop” in my life. And I know people who love sharing their “bird poop” with others. Beauty can come from that?

Apparently so. Note the “bird poop” at the beginning… and the result at the end. 🙂

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.

Isaiah 61: 1-3

Let your “bird poop” be a blessing today! Allow it to sink into the fertile soil, give it some sun and water, and watch what God can do!
